Over the past weeks, three ex-OFG students have been representing Australia at the Tokyo Olympics. Congratulations to:
- Jo Brigden Jones (OFG 1998-2003): competing in the Women’s K-2 and K-4 500m Canoe sprint
- Anneliese Rubie-Renshaw (OFG 2004-2009): part of the Women’s 4x400m Relay. Of note, Anneliese’s OFG Athletics records still stand in the Girls’ 12yrs 200m and 400m, 16yrs 100m, and 17yrs 100m, 400m and 800m
- Bronte Halligan (OFG 2003-2008): playing with the Aussie Stingers Women’s Waterpolo squad
These Olympians have endured an unusually challenging journey to Tokyo, showing admirable reserves of determination and perseverance, skill, hard work, commitment and athleticism. We congratulate them on the outstanding achievement of representing Australia with distinction at the highest level on the international stage. We also hope their achievements serve as an inspiration for our own students, remembering that these Olympians were once children and teenagers here at school, going to class, playing at lunch, competing in our school and rep carnivals and perhaps wondering and dreaming about one day representing their country at the Olympics.
